Meet our team

The Gym at Salt team brings together leading trainers, former athletes and medical professionals from around the world. While we are diverse in experience, we are united in our mission to offer every member a life-changing experience.

“Hard Over Easy Or Easy Over Hard?”

Dean (Solly) Solomon

Owner, Director & Business Development Manager

For Solly, it’s the thrill of testing new sessions that keeps him at the gym from sunrise until well after it sets. But it’s 23 years in the AFL (13 as a player and 10 as a coach) and stacks of fitness qualifications that makes everyone he trains feel at ease.

Years as an athlete meant functional strength training and interval training used to hold his heart, but he’s starting to fall in love with the recovery side of training too. And it’s a love story only trumped by his weekends spent surfing and adventuring with his wife and two kids.

Whether it’s time face-to-face or hustling hard behind the scene, Solly’s on a mission to ensure everyone that walks through the doors of the gym leaves as a better version of themselves.

"Pain is weakness leaving your body"

Victor Popov

Even after four decades in the sports and exercise industry, Victor Popov still finds new a reason to love his job every day.

The physiotherapist starts most days in with a sweat session in the altitude zone, where he’s known to give the SkiErg a good run for its money.

Outside his work as a physio, the Kingscliff local splits his time between hanging out with his family and coaching junior AFL.

Whether it’s a niggly back or a knee rehab program, you can trust Victor to send you straight to the recovery zone for some quality time in the ice bath.

“He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life” - Muhammad Ali

Matthew (Maxy) Kennedy

Owner, Director, & Conditioning Coach

There’s a reason they named the boxing zone after him. Maxy is the king of the pads and never turns down an opportunity to glove up.

Sign yourself up for one of his classes and you’ll discover what he really means when he calls it a ‘blowout’. SPOILER: It involves a whole lot of sweat!

Drawing on studies in Sports Coaching, Exercise Science and Level 3 ASCA Strength & Conditioning, you’ll be hard-pressed to find someone with more knowledge (or passion!) in the area.

After his own footy career, he’s also a crowd-favourite among the younger aspiring AFL players.

“Work hard, play hard”

Jayden Mandall

Staff Member

When you’re hitting the wall and reaching your maximal effort, Jayden knows how to push you one step further. It’s a skill that comes from a lifetime of sport, including everything from swimming and surf lifesaving to tennis and golf.

Don’t think you’re seeing things when he goes from behind the desk to the gym floor, because he’s a lover of the group classes too. The only thing that gets between Jayden and the battle ropes is his studies of a Bachelor of Sport Exercise Science and Laws.

We may not have a crystal ball, but we already know the future has big things planned for Jayden. Watch out world.

“Nobody cares, work harder!”

Harrison (Harry) Peucker

IT Manager

While everyone else is focusing on their abs, Harry is out there doing a completely different type of crunching – the numbers kind.

As our resident IT Manager, he’s the one that keeps our processes running smoothly, responds to inquiries, sets up new systems and makes sure we’re adding up the numbers right.

Catch him away from the desk and you’ll discover he’s got a powerful punch and an impressive bench press PB too. Combined with his love of surfing and good taste in music, you could call him the ultimate all-rounder.

"Pain is weakness leaving your body"

Huw Darnell

Huw just gets it. He knows how to get people excited about moving their bodies – regardless of their fitness level. While the Exercise Physiologist is most well known for his personalised sessions, it’s heading out for a run along the beach that truly has his heart.

Backed by an impressive range of experience and qualifications, Huw is a well known name with everyone from the Brisbane Lions to the QLD Reds. Catch him outside of one of his private sessions and he’ll either be hanging out with his young family or enjoying some R&R in the ice bath.

“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honourable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable”

Amanda Parker

A glowing smile, and a friendly personality to match.

Amanda Parker is a crowd-favourite personal trainer for people with all levels of fitness. She’s the first point of call for any ambitious goals and is determined to ensure every person has the best possible experience in every session she puts on.

When she’s not running a class or getting involved with the Ladies Hour: Functional, you’ll find Amanda spending time at the beach with her husband and kids.

While she’s a new addition to The Gym at Salt team, Amanda brings 6-years of experience to the table – and the best burpee to box jump technique we’ve ever seen.

"Because I can"

Anna Mcrostie

Front Desk

Ever spotted yourself on our Instagram? Chances are it was Anna that caught you in the action.

With a background in marketing and events, a super friendly personality and a genuine love of connecting with people, we love seeing her smiley face behind the desk.

To find Anna outside of the gym, all you’ll need to do is head to the beach at sunrise and you’ll find her meditating by the ocean or teaching herself the guitar.

Trent Ousby

Remedial Massage Therapist

Are you training for the Kingscliff Tri? Recovering from an injury? Or simply looking for a bit of me time? Whatever you need, Trent’s got you covered!

For the past 14 years, Trent has practiced as a massage therapist, working with some of the Gold Coast’s and Australia’s most elite sporting teams. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience when it comes to maximising performance and helping your body function at its best through remedial sports massage, dry needling and cupping. For Trent, the biggest markers of success are seeing his clients prevent and recover from injuries, gain relief from symptoms, and get the most out of life.

When Trent’s not helping his clients you can find him in the surf or pushing his own body to the limits through ironman races – which he does to raise awareness for children’s arthritis.

“Everything happens for a reason”

Sheraz Johnston

Reception & Child Minding

Nothing beats peace of mind. When you’re training, you want to know your little ones are in safe hands. At the Gym at Salt, your kids have an absolute ball with our very own Sheraz. With a super friendly personality and a genuine love of connecting with people, she’s the perfect person to have playing eye-spy in our creche or greeting members from behind the desk.

You’ll find her competitive streak comes out during Saturday morning beach games or when she’s training her arms to improve her performance in the pool. To find Sheraz outside of the gym, all you’ll need to do is head to the beach at sunrise, where she’ll be meditating by the ocean or teaching herself the guitar.
